Rabbi shergill with his song DILLI has given Delhi what it clearly deserved, but just sometime back I had this staunch ‘no no’ for this city. Delhi being my native place I’ve been a regular visitor here so all I felt about it was … It had major electricity problem, water too, evening’s are quite boring, difficult to commute, people here are damn self-centered and self- interested, they don’t have courtesy, all brats shoving off their father’s money. So I come here again, this time I have a different agenda: WORK, yeah surprisingly it has become my 1st work place. Till last year I never wanted to come to Delhi again, but as they say “Sometimes you got to do things you never expected, but this time you might just like it”.Yeah, that’s what’s quietly happening; I am starting to like Delhi a bit(just a bit). It’s cleaner, larger and eventful in political terms and with the Delhi metro on, it’s quite a cake walk commuting around the city now. But let me talk about the other beautiful things I like about the city, some of them I’ve always liked, while some I’ve started to like during this trip…
One thing I’ve always loved about Delhi is the “names people have here”, they stand out, north Indian people have generally wonderful names, I would rarely get a chance to spell out names like “ palak, shobhit, rashi, anshuman” in Mumbai where names are very common, we are filled with sunil’s, rahul’s and kunal’s. So keep it up guys, that’s something I have always looked upon when I come to Delhi and the other northern planes. Also the fact that, I’ve never seen more beautiful girls anywhere, I have traveled almost everywhere in the country, but none can beat Delhi chicks, Hats off to you…keep up the colors, the flashy outfits, no one in India carries them as well as you do
Food!! Mann it’s amazing here, everywhere you have something or the other frying, baking, you might easily gain a couple of kgs in a while. I remember when I was here in the vacation after my SSC (10th boards) I gained around 4 kgs. in one and a half months. So people, who are calorie conscious, you need to be careful about this place, resist all the food you get here!!
Now its time for things I have started liking starting this trip: spanking clean Delhi, extreme large roads, freakin easy commutation thanks to Delhi metro. It’s as good as anything in the country (I will dedicate a special post on it later) and it makes me really excited about the prospects of the Mumbai metro which will start in around 3-4 years time. Delhi now seems to have the new effervescence. As rabbi Shergill rightly says “bhatakta iska vidhan hai”. People in Delhi try to be as modern a; undoubtedly they have the best fashion quotient in the country. While on the other side Delhi has a distinct history, it’s the Hasthinapur of India; it has the old Qutub Minar, Nizamuddin tomb and the Red Fort so people and the place are still together getting their modernity quotient right.
So for me the first few days at Delhi have been surprisingly cool, never before I’ve been to GK, Connaught place, Gurgaon, karol bagh Palika bazaar in the first ten days. Thanks to work and some relatives. Yeah but let me briefly touch upon things I still hate about it: surely people here are extremely conscious about themselves ,probably that’s the history relation of this place, big maharajas have lived here some centuries ago and ego still lives on for ages and will always. Also the fact that Delhi as a city is quite confusing, the same kind of buildings everywhere difficult to understand this place even after a lot of efforts by the government, everything looks the same, difficult to set landmarks.
There are a lot things Mumbai needs to learn from Delhi now; first of all we have to get stringent on the encroaching and the rehabilitation issue. Even after huge opposition Delhi govt. was able to carry out the sealing plan and they’ve done quite a formidable job.. yeah at the end of all, if someone would ask me would you want to settle in delhi, I would say ‘no’ coz I love Mumbai so much. Yes we clearly say that Mumbai is not as good as Delhi today but I am sure we will easily beat you as soon as the commonwealth games get over. So delhietes and mumabites alike its your turn to think and write down things you like about each other and something you hate about your own city or the latter city ….get set go!!!

Ho Ho!!!!!!!!! …..So itsas if the love for the Mumbai Local is fast loosing its share….hmmmm I see. havin stayed in delhi myself for 4 years and havin been traveled by local buses at 8 at night ,coming back from the couching classes ,i prefer mumbai now cuaz its much safer
havin said that i recently went back to delhi for a few days and yes the roads and the metro have really changed the face of delhi unlike the madning traffic of mumbai

Hey nik, gr8 post yaar… u have almost given us a virtual tour of Delhi. I have been a fan of yur blog since the day i started reading them. This time u have come out with excellent observations on Delhi, good!
Well I would like to add my views/opinions on the city. I visited Delhi after my +2exams. When I landed in IGI Airport there was an excitement, an excitement of stepping down on the country’s capital. I was awestruck to see the architectural beauty of the Lotus Temple, Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, India Gate. Until I saw them they were all mere stone structure to me seen only in movies n on television.
I found lots of similarities between Delhi n my hometown. Moreover Delhi is perhaps the 2nd home of the bengali people. Have u been to Chittaranjan Park yet? God…Bengalis everywhere…..its like a mini kolkata away from kolkata. They celebrate Durga puja probably in a bigger way than we do. Then there is Palika baazar which is quiet similar to our Vardan market n AC Market. There is another market there which hosts only electronic goods (I cant recall the name now) & it represents the Fancy Market in Kolkata.
Metro railway is another area of similarity between Delhi n Kolkata. When I was there it was under construction. But I agree with the fact that Metro railway is a great mode of transport which in running successfully in Kolkata for a decade now. So whenever I need to board the Mumbai Local my head goes for a spin! GOD!!! thts the way u travel??? Hope Mumbai gets it metro rail soon….
As far as Delhi girls r concerned yes they r beautiful…i also believe Kolkata girls(specially the bengali girls) are in demand for their beauty. So here also I find a similarity.
Apart from so many similarities of delhi with my hometown i found some dissimilarities too which are not expected from the capital city. I found youngsters zooming on bikes without a helmet that to with a pillion rider(also without helmet)…the cop was just a mere audience. Here the rules are very strict n this time I am finding it stricter. Rash driving & driving without seat belt are also the areas where delhi is the leader (a recent TOI survey shows this).
People are self centered there—true… no one is bothered about anyone…but here people are willing to help u out, sometimes going out of their way..hahaha..
anyways… thats all for now…waitin for yur next blog….
Keep rockin n make your mark in the capital city Nik The Great One! All the bst dude!
I might agree to the girls part… you have revived my days when i used to stay in ghaziabad…
The girls of delhi are way more original than mumbai chicks
Ooooh how i remember a few of them.
For the rest i’ll have to see it to believe it mate.
at abhiroop …seems like a blog in a blog, i imagine u would have taken atleast half and hour to type all this and yeah it really features in well, ur old trip seemed quite eventfull, n yeah every city in our country will be similiar as the people staying here come from one seed, old habits die hard i guess, chennai to me has been the most boring city like wen i went there wen i was quite young, so probably things have changed now …. n kolokotta is the only metropolitant i have not visited looking forward to see that
yea dude I took around 25mins to write it….infact I did not thought that my comment would turn out to be a mini blog…I just went on typing…..
As far as Kolkata is concerned I think I have invited u a 1000times. I am inviting u again..so this diwali u n pranshu try n make the plan for visiting Kolkata successful.
In fact the city is waiting eagerly to welcome two icons of our batch:
NIK _ THE GREAT ONE !
MOJO JOJO _ THE LAZY BUM!
lol !!!
i must say…this ones really well written…when i started reading my face had turned red on your earlier comments on Delhi….yeah it might have been like that some time back, but it has drastically improved since then….i like the way you bring about a gradual change in your views…..
